Taylor Swift’s teachers reveal what she was really like at school

Taylor Swift’s reign at the top of the music industry shows no signs of slowing down. Her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” has taken the world by storm, generating headlines with its apparent references to past relationships and catapulting Swift to even greater heights. But before the chart-topping hits, billion-dollar net worth, and international fame, Taylor Swift was just a young student with a passion for music and writing. Two of her former teachers recently shared their heartwarming memories of a bright-eyed student who was destined for greatness.

A Teacher’s Enduring Pride

Barbara Kolvek, a retired music teacher, still beams with pride when she reminisces about the students who graced her classroom. Among them, none have achieved the level of stardom as Taylor Swift, who attended Kolvek’s class from first through fourth grade at the Wyndcroft School in Pottstown. Kolvek’s memories of Swift paint a picture of a dedicated and creative student. “She always was writing poetry, always,” Kolvek fondly recalled, even admitting to catching Swift indulging in her passion during music lessons. “Even in music class, even when she shouldn’t,” Kolvek chuckled.

The Spark of Inspiration

Kolvek played a pivotal role in Swift’s early artistic development. She even had the privilege of bestowing upon Swift her very first singing solo. “I did give her very first singing solo!” Kolvek exclaimed, her voice filled with pride. The name of that momentous performance? “‘Fast Talk Freddie,’ I believe it was called,” Kolvek reminisced. Looking back, Kolvek believes she may have played a small part in igniting the creative fire that burns brightly within Taylor Swift. “I feel like maybe I gave her a little spark or encouragement to do what she was doing,” Kolvek mused.

A Teacher’s Admiration

Heather Brown, another of Swift’s teachers from her third-grade year, also shared her fond memories of the future superstar. Brown highlighted a particular quality that set Swift apart from her classmates. “You always remember every student from the quality they have,” Brown explained to CBS Philadelphia. “Taylor’s quality was just being she was one of those students where people just drew to,” she added. This magnetic personality, evident even in her youth, has undoubtedly played a role in Swift’s ability to connect with millions of fans around the world. Brown can’t help but feel a surge of pride when she witnesses the adulation Swift receives from her fans. “When she comes out on stage and everyone’s screaming ‘Taylor,'” Brown shared, “‘it’s like, oh my gosh, like I was her teacher.'”

These reflections from Swift’s former teachers offer a glimpse into the formative years of a musical icon. Their stories remind us that even the biggest stars were once ordinary students with dreams and aspirations. As Taylor Swift continues to dominate the music scene, it’s heartwarming to see the impact her teachers have had on her journey.
